Since the release of the first iPad back in 2010 we have seen the popularity of personal tablet computers continue to rise with many of Apples rivals releasing similar products hoping to cash in on the ever-expanding market. We have seen Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon, Asus and most recently Tesco (among others) all releasing tablets with the aim of stealing a chunk of Apple’s market monopoly. On Tuesday 22nd October we saw the latest addition to the iPad Family – The iPad Air (following on from 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations, as well as the introduction of a smaller version – the iPad mini). The new iPad Air is the lightest full-sized tablet available, coming in at a full 209g lighter than the comparatively “bulky” iPad 4 – it is also a full 2mm thinner too! See below for a full specification comparison with the iPad4.

Perhaps more important than it’s new slimline size however is that Apple have decided to include the A7 chip and M7 motion processor used in the iPhone 5S and this means improved performance! Compared with the very first iPad that equates to a whopping 8 times faster for the baby of the group and a massive 72 times (yes, 72!) faster graphics performance. It’s these faster speeds which make the iPad Air a very tempting prospect for anyone looking to either buy a tablet for the first time or upgrade an old model.
